What is cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a waxlike and white substance that is present in some of the foods we eat. It is also made by the cells of our body, but most importantly by the liver cells. A certain amount of cholesterol is critcial to good health.

It’s not only an important component of cell walls, it is also essential for the production of some. For most people between 70 and 75 percent of the cholesterol in our blood is produced by their liver; the rest, about 30 percent comes from the food we eat. Your foods cholesterol, therefore, is something that you can change by your own efforts.

Your body requires fat and cholesterol in order to maintain good health. In infancy and childhood, fat is essential for normal brain development; throughout life, it is essential to provide energy and support growth. Cholesterol is used to build the walls of cells throughout the body and for the manufacture of key essential substances such as hormones and vitamin D. That makes it important to have some fat and cholesterol available in your body at all times.

If cholesterol is needed for healthy bodily function, why is cholesterol bad for you? It’s simple. The answer to these questions is simple. A certain amount of cholesterol is important for the body. However when blood cholesterol levels exceed 200mg/dL (milligrams per deciliter), you can be at risk of developing heart disease. That’s why so many people are looking for a high cholesterol cure.

Elevated total blood cholesterol is clearly a modifiable heart disease risk factor. In so many cases heart attacks, bypass surgeries, angioplasties, and sudden cardiac deaths occur in people with a total cholesterol level above 200mg/dL. Cholesterol medication is used to help control those levels.

A better way to estimate your risk of heart disease is to actually know your ratio of total cholesterol to good cholesterol. It’s not just the total cholesterol level that tells you what your risk is: you actually need to know what your ratio is.

Always seek your doctor’s advice for all health related issues. The information in this post is for information purposes only and is not intended to diagnose any ailment or suggest any treatment.

Is it possible to buy a home in Orange County for Less Than $140,000? Yes it is! At Laguna Woods Village retirement community you can buy a home for 50% off the average price of homes in Orange County. These are the same homes that were selling like hot cakes for much higher prices just a few months ago. And you can be sure as the baby boom generation reaches retirement age within the next few years the demand for these homes will very soon push prices up again. There really is no better time to buy at Laguna Woods Village than right now.

The first homes in Leisure World (as it was known until October 2005) were built in 1964, and the last phase was completed in 1980. Laguna Woods Village was planned right from the very beginning as a completely self-contained retirement community. The community has 12,736 residential units of various kinds and approximately 18,000 residents with people constantly coming and going just like in any active community.

To keep residents happy and active there are 7 clubhouses, more than 200 clubs and organizations, a library, 5 swimming pools, 10 tennis courts, 2 golf courses, an equestrian center, 10 craft shops, 2 garden centers, 2 RV storage areas and 2 fully equipped fitness centers.

So if you are looking for a great place to retire, you owe it to yourself to check out Laguna Woods Village. Formerly known as Leisure World, this premiere senior community is located only 8 miles from the emerald coast of Laguna Beach, California. Prices have fallen over 25% over the past two years and now is the time to buy before they rise again.

Here’s an example of a really stunning home in Laguna Woods. It’s located at 741 Avenida Majorca and is a beautifully remodeled Cape Code style home. Laguna Woods Village was formerly known as Leisure World.

This large end unit has recently been completely renovated – with real hardwood flooring and new dual pane windows and doors. The entire home features unique tongue and groove wood ceiling and recessed lighting along with 7 skylights. The enclosed atrium gives added living space and features a beautiful celestial window.

The bright airy kitchen has been completely remodeled and is highlighted by high end marble counter tops and a farm style sink. The designer bathroom also features marble counter tops and an inviting Jacuzzi tub. Additional improvements include new central heating, air conditioning and washer and dryer hook ups. The living room has its own electric fireplace, and the Master Bedroom has beautiful french doors leading to the outdoor, flagstone covered patio.

A home in Laguna Woods Village is so much more than just a house. The Village is a gate guarded community with extensive amenities designed especially for active seniors: 7 clubhouses, 5 swimming pools, 2 golf courses, a horse riding stable, and just about any type of activity and recreation club you can think of. It’s a senior retirement paradise.

To make it even more convenient for residents, the world class Saddleback Medical Center and Laguna Hills Mall are within easy walking distance for many residents – or residents and visitors can use the free bus service to get around. What could be better than that!

When inquiring about opportunities to relocate to Laguna Woods Village, make sure to call a real estate agent who specializes in Laguna Woods Village homes. For example, Patrick McNamee of Century 21 Rainbow Realty sold more than 22 homes in the Laguna Woods Village retirement community in 2008 and knows where all the best deals can be found.
